Monophobia: The Fear of being alone
How a father did NLP with his children in the wrong way!
He continued, “Even when my 10-year-old son is with me, I feel safe. But now, I have to travel for work and stay in hotels. I’m terrified of closing the door of the room I stay in and afraid that if I leave it open, I may be robbed!”
This was a clear case of 'monophobia" i.e fear of being alone.
To uncover the root of his fear, I guided him into a deep trance.
In this state, he recalled a vivid experience and said, “I’m sitting on my father’s lap in the courtyard of my home. My elder siblings are there too, and my father is telling us stories of genies and witches.”
This memory was the initial sensitizing event (ISE) the seed of his fear.
Alhamdulillah, with the right intervention, he overcame his fear that very day. I even tested his progress by leaving him alone in my office, and he felt calm and relaxed.
What he mentioned demonstrates the power of language and communication. Words are not just words; they program listener’s mind. Untrained individuals, like his father, even with good intentions, may unknowingly create lifelong challenges for themselves or others through poorly chosen words.
This is where Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) shines. The “Linguistic” in NLP focuses on the art and science of communicating - both verbally and nonverbally.
What you say, how you say it, to whom and the context in which you say it all matter.
